One of the stalwart singers of Hindustani Kirana Gharana style Dr Pandit Bhimsen Joshi who was bestowed the nation top award Bharatha Rathna in 2008 died of severe breathing problem in Sahyadri Hospital in Pune on Monday morning. Born on 4th February 1922 – the 88 years Dr Bhimsen Joshi sung the Hindustani Kirana Gharana for 65 years of his life. The winner of prestigious awards like Padmasri, Padma Bhushan, Padma Vibhushana started giving programs at the age of 24 years.
On the day of Thyagaraja Aradhane this prolific singer of the country passed away is very sad news to crores of admirers.
On 4th of November 2008 Kannadiga Pandit Bhimsen Joshi got Bharat Rathna award the highest honor of this country is the proudest moment. Is it not Sakkare Thuppa Kaluve Harasi….situation for all Kannadigas?
Pandit Bhimsen Joshi the specialist in ‘Khirana Gharana’ the 86 years old Hindustani Singer has sung for Kannada film ‘Sandhya Raaga’ – Nambide Ninna Nadha Devathaye…..for Dr.Rajakumar and that became a huge hit. That is an evergreen song to this day. Dr. Bhimsen Joshi was introduced to Kannada cinema playback singing by music director G.K.Venkatesh. One of the classic films of Kannada cinema ‘Sandhya Raga’ was releases in the end of the year 1966. Shailashri Productions made this ‘Sandhya Raga’ that was directed by H.Krishnamurthy. Dr.Rajakumar, Bharathi, Udayakumar, KS Ashwath, Narasimharaju, Shylasri starred in ‘Sandhya Raaga’.

Pandit Bhimsen Joshi is the second Kannadiga to receive the Bharata Rathna. The earlier one was the most brainy engineer and simpleton Sir M Vishveswaraya.
